Youth, Animals and the Love of Nature - The ISES Experience

The International School for Earth Studies (ISES) is a leadership
development school promoting education that builds bridges between Youth,
Nature and our Global Village. Through experiential learning that blends
elements of animal husbandry, the natural world, and outdoor adventure, ISES offers
a nurturing, challenging and inspiring milieu for young men and women wanting
to explore Earth-based studies and non-motorized outdoor recreation. Students
are welcomed into a safe, family-centered environment that encourages and
supports individuality, self-exploration, and personal goal-setting.
Our resident animals play an integral role in student character building.
The ISES animal
husbandry program connects students with husky dogs, horses, birds of prey
and rehabilitating wild animals through animal care and conditioning. Participation
in exhilarating seasonal activities such as dog sledding, horseback riding,
and working with animals in rehabilitation through our provincially licensed
facilities provides students with rare insight into the needs and pleasures
of our non-human residents.
ISES's private 250 hectare nature sanctuary provides multi-dimensiona
l
classrooms encompassing unique biodiversity - streams, marshes, lakes, meadows,
pastures, rolling hills, and new and old growth forests. These interconnected
ecosystems offer endless opportunities for nature discovery and awareness-building
as students are immersed in an engaging environment of self discovery.
ISES brings together a unique network of independent professional instructors who contribute vast, collective experience to our programs. Subsequently, students can acquire skills-based certifications in animal husbandry and outdoor adventure recreation, gain personalized life-skills coaching and obtain accredited and non-accredited college level instruction in Earth-based studies.
Ultimately,
through our resident animals, hands-on approach to learning, and the wilderness
that envelopes ISES , students develop a greater sense of respect
and appreciation for the vulnerability of the natural world, expand personal
leadership qualities, and better define how they visualize their futures
within an environmentally sustainable Global Village.
